Pages of the past
The new edition of the book of memoirs by the prominent Ukrainian cultural figure Mykola Prakhov (1873-1957) includes a reprint of the memoirs "Pages of the Past", in which the author tells about the history of the painting of St. Volodymyr's Cathedral in Kyiv and its executors - painters V. Vasnetsov, N. Nesterov, V. Kotarbinsky, the Svedomsky brothers, and others; a separate story is about Adrian Prakhov and his close friends, such as M. Vrubel, I. Repin, M. Antokolsky, V. Polenov, and O. Murashko.
The second part of the book contains sketches and essays by M. Prakhov, which are kept in various archives in Ukraine and other countries.
The book contains valuable materials on the history of the cultural life of Kyiv and Ukraine in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a deep understanding of the place and importance of the creative intelligentsia in the society of that time.
