The book «The Era of Lobanovsky»

"The Era of Lobanovsky" is a fascinating look at the life and achievements of football strategist Valery Lobanovsky, written by the famous sports journalist Davy Arkadyev. In this book, covering the period from 1961 to 2002, Arkadyev talks about the golden era of the systematic training approach, represented by outstanding coaching personalities such as Solovyov, Oshenkov, Maslov, Sevidov, Bazilevich and Lobanovsky himself.

On the pages of the “Lobanovsky Era” the great Dynamo team from Kyiv appears, where the talents of the players converged: Reshko, Kolotoe, Matvienko, Blokhin, Konkov and many others. More than 30 Honored Masters of Sports of the USSR in the period from 1975 to 1986 asserted their pride in this team. In 1986, Dynamo again won the Cup Winners' Cup, and Igor Belanov was awarded the Golden Ball for the best football player in Europe.

This book is not only about football triumphs, but also about the progressive training methods of O. P. Bazilevich, V. V. Lobanovsky and their scientific supervisor A. M. Zelentsov. These methods, tested on Dynamo players, gave amazing results and even influenced neighborhood football teams and students of regular sports schools.

The meeting with Lobanovsky in the book is enlivened by his unique humor and irony, which were incomprehensible to almost no one, but not many understood Lobanovsky’s psychology. He was not only a great football coach, but also a great psychologist.

“The Lobanovsky Era” is also a look at the Ukrainian national idea through the prism of the team and the coach himself. Lobanovsky's three teams and Lobanovsky himself became the standard of love for the Motherland and joy for it. The author of the book, Davy Arkadiev, perfectly conveys this spirit of the times and eternal values that remain relevant today.
