The Book «ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PIANO. IHOR AND SVITLANA POKLAD»
ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PIANO
Still, Ihor Poklad remains a humble person. Interviews, presentations, and mass events are not his cup of tea. He is happy with his piano alone. He adores his home, his family, his dogs, and trees. He cherishes the memory of his late friends and takes care of the plants they have planted. And it is he who has written hundreds of songs, many of which have long been considered folk music—Wild Geese Flying, Magic Violin, A Song about the Mother, and Beloved, made real hits with the charming voice of Nina Matviienko. Poklad also created music for the legendary animated series How Cossacks... Across the country, in dozens of theaters, actors sing and dance to the music composed by Ihor Poklad. He was longing to speak about his friends, least of all about himself and his work. And yet, he did ‘speak’.
This book is not just a memoir—it is a story about the makers of the golden treasury of Ukrainian culture that remain unheralded today. It is intended for the broadest circle of readers—everyone who loves Ukrainian songs and takes an interest in the cultural life of Ukraine in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
