The book «Mikhail Bulgakov and the Music of the City»

For Bulgakov, music was an important part of his worldview, and it entered the artistic texture of his prose and plays. The author of the monograph highlights the history of Kyiv musical culture and the atmosphere of the writer's family, which influenced the formation of his personality and subsequently his work. The second part examines the construction of the text of the novel The White Guard based on the principles of a symphonic work.

The book is the result of the author's many years of research work at the Bulgakov Literary and Memorial Museum in Kyiv. Archival materials and unpublished letters from the writer's inner circle were used.

The book will be of interest to fans of Bulgakov's work. The book includes research by Iryna Sirenko on the musical culture of Kyiv in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when Bulgakov's worldview was being formed. Also published for the first time is the correspondence between Bulgakov's sister Nadezhda and Alexander Deshynsky, Bulgakov's childhood friend.
