Ukraine, its people, its history and culture have always been in the center of attention of European geopolitics. In a complex historical and political process, the people of Ukraine had to defend and preserve their national interests, especially their language, traditions, and culture. The interest for history in our society is connected not only with the desire to learn about one's ancestry, to understand the spiritual origins of the nation more deeply, but also to comprehend the historical experience of state-building, a process that is so necessary in the current conditions of European integration.
The level of development of material culture, the depth and stability of the spiritual traditions of the people determine the viability of the nation and guarantee the potential of its further historical destiny. A mental sign of the Ukrainian national culture, along with the language, is the costume, which is a universal source of information for researching the history of the nation. It encodes all aspects of the life of the Ukrainian people, its stable genetic code (life, traditions, spirituality, language, art).
Since independence, research on the history of Ukrainian national costumes has intensified, but sometimes outdated stereotypes remain in the coverage of topics related to the costumes of the ancient population, and even more so in the new direction for ethnographers - costume reconstruction. But today, scientific concepts of the history of costume development have been formed. As a result, a new branch of costume studies has emerged - paleocostumology - the science of prehistoric periods in the development of costume.
Ukrainian historical costume has become an object of study for many researchers and inspires fashion designers to create competitive brands of European quality recognized worldwide.
