The Book «On the Other Side of the Piano»
Discover the challenging journey that renowned composer Ihor Poklad took from his birth in Kyrgyzstan in 1941 to the heights of musical fame. His name is associated with 8 gold records, and his songs are performed by all participants of the "Voice of the Country" competition. These songs have long been considered folk songs.
Ihor Poklad is a person who skillfully avoids publicity. Interviews, presentations, and mass events are not for him. He is happy when he is alone with his piano, at home, surrounded by family, beloved dogs, and trees. He carefully preserves the memory of friends who have passed away and tends to the plants they planted. He has written hundreds of songs, many of which have long been considered folk songs: "Oh, Wild Geese Flew", "The Magic Violin", "Song about Mother", "Beloved" – these songs, performed by the enchanting voice of Nina Matviyenko, have become real hits. Additionally, he composed music for the legendary animated series "How the Cossacks...". Actors from dozens of theaters across the country sing and dance to his melodies.
Ihor Poklad has long dreamed of telling about his friends. Least of all, he wanted to talk about himself and his work. Yet, he was "talked into" it. This book is not just memoirs. It is about those who are almost forgotten today, although they form the golden fund of Ukrainian culture and the nation.
The book "On the Other Side of the Piano" is addressed to the widest range of readers: everyone who loves Ukrainian songs and is interested in the cultural life of Ukraine in the late 20th – early 21st centuries.
